The Blue Lagoon sits in a moss-covered lava field on the Reykjanes peninsula — about 20 minutes from Keflavík Airport and 45 minutes from central Reykjavík. The water is geothermal runoff, milky with silica, and held around 37–39°C year-round. It is Iceland’s most booked spa for a reason: you can land, soak, and still be in town for dinner.

The Comfort Package is the one most first-timers actually want. You get lagoon entry at a reserved time slot, a silica mud mask, a towel and one drink from the in-water bar, plus round-trip transfers so you are not trying to time a Flybus around a soaking window. Book the slot before you fly — summer afternoons and any weekend in winter sell out.

First night after KEF?

Why book this

  • Transfers included

Hotel pickup in Reykjavík or a Keflavík Airport connection, so the lagoon works on an arrival or departure day without hiring a car for one stop.

  • Comfort extras

Silica mud mask, towel and a drink at the lagoon bar — you bring a swimsuit and flip-flops. Lockers and showers are on site.

  • A reserved time slot

Walk-up entry is not how this works anymore. The ticket is for a specific arrival window; be on the bus or at the gate on time.

What’s included

  • Blue Lagoon Comfort admission at your booked time
  • Silica mud mask, towel and one lagoon-bar drink
  • Round-trip transfers from Reykjavík hotels or Keflavík Airport
  • Instant confirmation and live availability on Viator

Before you go

Arrival day vs departure day

If your flight lands at KEF before mid-afternoon, soak on the way into town. If you leave in the evening, soak on the way back to the airport and skip the extra Reykjavík transfer. Leave at least three hours before an international departure.

Hair and silica

The water is wonderful and brutal on untreated hair. Soak, then use the in-shower conditioner they provide — lots of it — before you rinse. Tie long hair up if you can.

Not the only lagoon

Sky Lagoon is closer to Reykjavík and feels more like a design hotel. The Blue Lagoon is the lava-field icon and the one that sits on the airport road. Read the comparison if you are choosing one spa for the trip.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book the Blue Lagoon in advance?

Yes. Entry is timed. In summer, and around Christmas and Easter, Comfort slots with transfers often sell out a week or more ahead. Book the package, then plan the rest of the day around that window.

How long should I allow?

Plan 2–3 hours at the lagoon itself, plus transfer time. From Reykjavík that is roughly 45 minutes each way. From Keflavík it is closer to 20 minutes. Do not cut it fine against a departing flight.

Is the Comfort Package worth it versus basic entry?

For most visitors, yes — the towel, mask and drink are what you would buy anyway, and bundling transfers removes the awkward “can I make the airport bus” maths. Upgrade to Premium only if you want a bathrobe, slippers and a table at Lava Restaurant.

Can I go if I am driving myself?

You can, but this page is the transfer package. Self-drivers should book lagoon entry only and park on site. If you already have a car for the Ring Road, do not pay for a bus you will not use.
